This site was originally set up as an online resources for those students at Southampton University taking the Jazz theory Course. This course was originally designed by Pete Thomas (Film/TV composer and graduate of Leeds College of Music). All the course materials are in the process of moving to Pete's main site. You can now access these at the new Jazz Theory site. Please amend your bookmarks or favorites. The tutorials and exercises are freely available to all interested musicians and are no longer restricted to music students on the Southampton University undergraduate courses.
The course covers theory required for chord progression based improvisation as well as scale charts, modes, standard chord changes and blues improvising.
